Anyone can vote for our Alternative Awards! The only requirement is to have seen everything in the category for which you are voting. This is a deliberate sidestepping of the Oscars-style voting, where any Academy member can vote in all categories (after the nominations are announced), regardless of whether they have seen anything. We want people’s opinions, but we want those opinions to be informed and ranked.
For movies, all of the categories contain no more than 5 nominees, to make the task surmountable. Pick a category and watch the films and vote. Then pick another category and repeat. Send your ranked vote on all nominees in a category to alt.awards.movie.votes@gmail.com by the end of March 6th.
For TV, it’s a bit more complicated. What is nominated is the portion of the show released in 2019 (give or take), but what if it’s the 4th season of a show and you haven’t seen any of it? Seeing all of the current season is NOT necessary. Seeing all of what came before it is NOT necessary. A reasonable sampling of the current season IS required, backed up by whatever supplemental viewing you think is sufficient. We welcome guidance from those who have seen the shows, and we may provide recommendations for individual shows. We will announce the winners at a party at our apartment in Ottawa on the evening of Saturday, March 7th. Location details will be distributed later. We expect to stream the awards ceremony online. Please feel free to join us in person or online whether you have voted or not!
